Product Info

The suitcase, a familiar form of the visual language of transportation, is in its purest form a vessel. As a readymade, these components evoke utility and quantified usability. Its boundaries are implied to contain and to protect; its engineering communicates its own execution. A static storage for transient movement; the suitcase is understood as both still and in motion at any given time. Through a series of deconstructed gestures, these fleeting components enter a new association of support. With the implementation of fibreglass, the protective shell is now seen as an echo of movement captured. The technique of moulding and amplifying these existing structures speaks to an approach of frottage. In place of topographical rubbings, these dimensional works are given another skin. With this skin not only comes a new basis for the visual but also a new basis of utility. This material motion frozen in form can now carry associations of stoic support and stillness. The extended handle, originally implying a pushing and pulling, now acts as a support perhaps for the back of the user. An interior exposed through its own structure, these works investigate timeliness in action. The archetype of the suitcase; splayed and reconfigured.
