Industrialism

New York, Sized Gallery, 18.05.22

Information

INDUSTRIALISM was inspired by the way objects inform our daily lives and visual sensibilities, centering around the materiality and construction of the object itself, whether a painting, a table, or a car. This exploratory show is built on a curiosity of materials and the space that industrial production shares with collectable design. The concept for the exhibition considers the current climate of the global supply chain shortages, and emphasizes the importance of materials and our access to them. At a time when it is especially fraught to acquire the necessities for production, how does our relationship to what we can access shift?

Held in the West Village at Donna Karan's UrbanZen, INDUSTRIALISM included over 100 works from nearly 50 artists, designers, dealers, and prominent New York galleries. The exhibition spanned two floors, with work ranging from archival design pieces, photography, sound sculpture, lighting, painting, and vehicles. INDUSTRIALISM was sponsored by Mortlach Whiskey, whose bespoke product was served in the Mortlach by Design Lounge—an upstairs retreat combining their own collaborative design objects alongside works from the show. Spanning a duration of two weeks, SIZED's inaugural New York show welcomed hundreds of guests in addition to a Mortlach-sponsored VIP opening and a brunch for FRIEZE Art Fair.
