Slam Jam presents Illya Goldman Gubin

Milan, Slam Jam Take over Salone 2023, 17.04.23

Information

In his forthcoming exhibition, Illya Goldman Gubin presents a collection of 23 „Karton“ Stools arranged in a geometric pattern, each taking the form of a cuboid and serving as an extension of Gubin's ongoing work with cardboard as a medium. The placement and constellation of the artworks is specifically adapted to the accompanying sound performance by AAR, which creates a different acoustic experience from each position in the space.

The exhibition is divided into two rooms: a rectangular main room and a square cube room, each with its own unique arrangement of the works. The main room features the works placed in a linear pattern, while the cube room features a square-in-a-square arrangement. The use of grids and linear patterns creates a sense of order amidst the disorder, emphasizing the balance and tension that Gubin aims to evoke in this installation.

The sound installation in the space, which consists of a three-and-two ways active speaker system, adds an element of disorder and chaos to the geometric arrangement of the cardboard stools. Through this, Gubin seeks to explore this relationship, and the ways in which sound can disrupt and transform our perception of space.

By utilizing geometric forms, Gubin conveys a sense of stability and balance that engages the viewer both visually and physically. Through the combination of sound, shape, and arrangement, Gubin aims to create a multisensory experience that challenges our perception of order and disorder, inviting us to contemplate the interplay between chaos and harmony.

Each artwork serves a functional purpose and invites spectators to interact with it in a tactile way.
