The Interview

[1] How does travel play a part in your creative practice?
Travel is not just a physical journey for me, but also a spiritual one. It allows me to find inspiration in unexpected places, things I would not normally see. Whether it's the texture of an old building wall or an interpretation for something unusual to me. Everything I see and experience finds its way into my work.

[2] Which particular cities or places have inspired you the most and why?
It's neither of those. It's more the things without clear context that stand out to me in individual and random places. They are details, misinterpretations, forms.

[3] The right materials are important to Rimowa and seem like a key element of your work too, from your resin sculptures to your atelier clothing. How did that interest develop? And what do you look for in a material?
I am interested in the longevity and scalability of a material. I aim to have a main material, I’m seeking to challenge it as well as provoke it. The interest arose when it was realized for me that from a materiality limitation and through conscious boundaries I could achieve more exciting and profound ideas.

[4] Rimowa has been perfecting its approach for 125 years. Do you think about longevity and legacy when it comes to your own work?
Yes I do, however the question of legacy is not something that can be fully controlled or predicted. Art has the power to transcend time and place and as artists, our primary task is to create work that reflects our own unique perspective and the present reality.
I believe that my work is not just objects, but also vessels of meaning and deeper ideology. They are expressions of my personal vision. I view my work as a contribution to a larger dialogue within art and design and hope that my work can inspire others.
